Revision about Field Spell Cards explanations (Updated March 2014): One face-up Field Spell may exist on each Duelist's Field.
(When a player triggers a Field Spell on their side, the opponent is not required to send their Field Spell Card to their graveyard.)
In other words, an existing Field Spell is sent to the graveyard once a new Field Spell is activated in its place on its respective Field side.
(Doing this no longer results in the previous Field Spell Card being "destroyed")

POINT 1
Place a Pendulum Monster face-up into the Pendulum Zone to treat it as a Spell Card! (Cannot be placed face-down)
⇒ As they're now treated as Spell Cards, they are susceptible to being destroyed by cards that can destroy Spell/Trap Card(s) on the field.
POINT 2
Pendulum Monsters placed in either Pendulum Zone are no longer treated as Monster Cards.
⇒Cards that can target or destroy Monster Card(s) will have no effect on them.
POINT 3
Pendulum Summoning is followed-up by a Special Summon alongside it!
⇒ If a Pendulum Summoning becomes negated, all Monsters about to be summoned will be sent to the graveyard.

Damage Steps (Updated March 2014)
1Starting the Damage Step
Conditions that affect damage calculation such as negations and changes to monsters' ATK/DEF are taken into account here.
(Face-down monsters are not required to be placed face-up at this point)
【Card Examples: "A・O・J カタストル", "一刀両断侍", "オネスト", "突進", "収縮", etc.】
2Pre-Damage Calculation
Affected face-down cards are placed in face-up position at this step (unless flipped).
Effects that take place during the "Damage Step" are invoked in this step. This is typically the last step when changes to a Monster's ATK/DEF take place.
【Card Examples: "ドリルロイド", "ライトロード・モンク エイリン", "オネスト", "突進", "収縮"】
3Damage Calculation
Affected Monsters' ATK/DEF are compared in this step.
Any effects that take place during this step are activated here.
【Card Examples: "クリボー", "お注射天使リリー", "武神器-ハバキリ", "禁じられた聖典"】
4Post-Damage Calculation
Effect timings such as "when taking damage" and "during battle" are activated in this step.
Any flipped face-up cards' effects are also activated during this step.
【Card Examples: "ライトロード・ハンター ライコウ", "魂を削る死霊", "冥府の使者ゴーズ", "異次元の女戦士"】
5End of Damage Step
All damage calculations are applied, and destroyed Monsters are sent to the graveyard in this step. Any "when destroyed" effects will be activated.
【Card Examples: "巨大ネズミ", "ジュラック・グアイバ"】
